Procrastination - Why You Must Avoid It

As I muse over my life and achievements so far, I wonder what my life could have been if I had never procrastinated.  Did I say I procrastinated; yes that has been the reason why I am still struggling to make ends meet.  I am not in any way being ungrateful to God for who I am today, but it would have been a more exciting story of success if not for procrastination.  I have missed so many good opportunities in the past as a result of not doing a particular thing at the appointed time.

Experience has shown that procrastination does more harm than good in a person’s life and anyone who aspires to be great must avoid it.  Everything you have to achieve in life has an appointed time and if you miss that particular time, the opportunity may or may never call again.  Because of my experience and my resolve to help others overcome this menace, I have enumerated reasons why you must avoid procrastination.

It Delays or Prevents You from Reaching Your Goals
When you set a goal for yourself, you may have to follow some procedures to achieve that goal.  The steps will include targeted period of time, each step must be followed strictly and concluded in order to enter the next step.  When you continue to drag your foot on a step or do it haphazardly, it will be very difficult to achieve the goal.  Assuming you want to write and publish a book within 6 months, you will need to make researches, sit down with your materials and write, edit and print it, look for publishers or source for money to publish it yourself.  These are steps you must take to achieve your purpose.  When you begin to postpone your research period and at the end of the day use the targeted period of 6 months do one or two researches, use another one year to write, your will find out that you can never meet up with your target time and may eventually not able to publish the book again.

It Keeps You in Perpetual Regret
You just passed out from the college and your parents are finding it very difficult to send you to the University.  Luckily, you came about an advert regarding Government scholarship that is offered every 4 years.   You then told your friend about it and both of you agreed to apply.  Eventually, your friend applied and you kept on saying I will, I will, until the scholarship entry period ended.  Fortunately, your friend won the scholarship and was offered admission to the university while you have to remain at home for only God knows when.  How will you feel, bad? That is an understatement, you will hate yourself and you will continue to regret your actions for the rest of your life. This is because you may not have that opportunity again and if you do, you will be very much behind.  Imagine waiting for another 4 years when your friend may have concluded her studies.  That is the effect of procrastination – everlasting regret.

It Affects Your Health Negatively
By the time you keep on procrastinating and ended up not able to achieve your goals in life, it will result to poverty and consequently unhappiness.  This will definitely affect your health negatively.  Unhappiness is linked to so many illnesses and eventually sudden death.

Stop procrastination today and live a fulfilled and happy life.
